Yvette by Modkid

I love Modkid patterns for trendy clothes I know my daughter will want to wear, and I'm happy to sew.

And the new pattern Yvette is no different.

There are 3 options for length - top, dress and maxi. 2 options for straps - tie or adjustable. And 2 options for the back - shirred or elastic casing.

This version is the top length (I only had a remnant of this rayon I wanted to use), with tie straps and a shirred back. Previously I would have gone for the elastic casing. But I'm feeling pretty brave with my shirring. And I'm so thrilled with how it turned out.
There is a drawstring at the front to ruche the bodice, and a ruffle between the bodice and the 'skirt'.

With all the topstiching of straps and drawstrings I happened upon a technique that mad it easier to keep my stitching straight. Normally when topstitching a strap, it has a tendency to pull 'list' or veer to one side - as it's only being fed by one feed dog. I found that by using my seam ripper up near the presser foot to keep the strap in check, I could have a straighter topstitch.  Here's a video of my seam ripper in action.

As usual I blended sizes for a great fit - one size longer than wide. With the elastic back, there's a fair amount of leeway in the sizing width-wise, and I could. Have gone a size bigger in the width if I wanted. The pattern includes finished garment measurements, and guidance on how to choose a good fit.

The pattern is available in two size ranges
Girls is from 2T to 8/9. And the tween sizes are 10 to 18.
